Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. at the Annual Parade

January 14, 2014 By karbuckle2016 Leave a Comment

Martin Luther King Jr.Martin Luther King Jr. inspired a nation and galvanized the fight against racism.

This year, we honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his many critical accomplishments—from leading the Montgomery bus boycott and Birmingham sit-ins to the march on Washington, D.C.—the last of which was the site of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

At the 20th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Grande Parade, more than three hundred thousand people will march through the heart of Houston in celebration. This parade is one of the largest in the country, surpassed in size only by the Macy’s Day Parade and Rose Parade.

The parade will consist of 15 parade floats and 30 marching bands. It is set to start on January 20 at 10 a.m. and will last two hours. The parade starts in Mid-Town at San Jacinto St. and Elgin St.

If you won’t be able to make the parade, you can always catch the live broadcast on TV. More than four million viewers are expected to tune into this historic event.

For more information about the Martin Luther King Jr. Grande Parade,  please visit the City of Houston’s event calendar or the parade website.
